Interstitial Cystitis/Bladder Pain

Interstitial cystitis refers to a condition that is marked by some combination of the following symptoms

  • Chronic (long-standing) bladder pain. This pain often has some relationship to urination. It is often also affected by stress and diet.
  • Frequency of urination
  • Urgency of urination
  • Waking more than twice per night to urinate
  • Urge incontinence (involuntary leakage of urine related to a strong urge to urinate)

Treatment of Interstitial Cystitis can consist of

  • Diet and lifestyle changes
  • Oral medication
  • Rescue Intsillation (medication placed into the bladder)
  • Hydrodistenion
  • Botox injection into the bladder
  • Sacral neuromodulation
  • Removal of the bladder and urinary diversion
