Vaginal Prolapse/Cystocele

A woman’s bladder is supported in the pelvis by the pelvic floor. When the support is weakened (often by childbirth and/or prior pelvic surgery), the bladder can drop down into the vagina – this is known as a cystocele.

Symptoms of a cystocele include

  • A sense of vaginal fullness
  • Feeling like there is a weight in the vagina
  • Pain with sex
  • Overactive bladder

Management of cystocele can include:

  • Observation
  • Pessary
  • Surgical repair
