Overactive Bladder

The bladder is an organ in the pelvis, which functions to store and empty urine.  Storage and emptying of urine is coordinated by the brain. Poor communication between the brain and the bladder can lead to an overactive bladder.

Overactive bladder represents a group of symptoms including

  • Frequency of urination
  • Nocturia – Waking two or more times to urinate at night
  • Urgency – a sudden, uncontrolled urge to urinate
  • Urge Incontinence – urgency leading to involuntary bladder emptying
